Since December 2008, visitors from around East Anglia have visited the Yaxley Mountain Railway. Trains scale the highest mountain in Peterborough and Yaxley where the Yetminster Peak boasts dramatic landscape and scenery.  This unique railway is one of the most popular visitor attractions in Eastern Yaxley. Friends and day trippers have been appreciating the truly spectacular views of the Yetminster & Hatley mountain range. Today everyone, regardless of age or fitness, can savour the breathtaking views and claim this mountain as one of their lifetime

Based on Victorian engineering, Yaxley Mountain Railway is the only public model railway in yaxley and a true majestic mountain top adventure.

The Journey

The Majestic Mountain Adventure

Your adventure begins at Hatley Station at the foot of the highest mountain in Peterborough. Enjoy a look at our various out of use and stored items varying from telegraph poles to vintage rolling stock and locos. Before you board the train at the platform you will notice the train usually pulls 3 carriages. For safety reasons please do not touch any controllers, plugs, wires or track.
As the train leaves the station you pass the original shed that houses the 2 engines and the siding which is home to the stored stock and a Spare Locomotive, as well as this there is an origional Goods Shed & Cattle Dock that are used for Freight Purposes. You may also notice our more recently built Mainline Stock Storage Siding and Loco Storage Yard. With a round trip of approximately 27 meters, the journey provides ample time to see the wonders of the Yaxley summit.

At this point the train Enters the damp tunnel at Yetminster, and Before you know it you are on top of the impressive viaduct looking down at the ancient woodland and passing the rock littered, alien landscape that has lain like this for more than 100,000 Hours. The train is now re-entering Rocky Tunnel, as it slows for the steep descent into Hatley Yard down the 1 in 56 incline.
